Chris Gustin: Masterworks in Clay

This retrospective exhibition of the work of Chris Gustin comes to us from the Fuller Art Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts. It was curated by Sherry Leedy, of Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art, in Kansas City, Missouri for the Fuller.

Chris Gustin has been recognized for his excellence and innovation in ceramics and has received many awards including two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships. His work is in public and private collections worldwide. Examples in the exhibition include pieces from his various series giving a full range from 38 years of work. Known for his biomorphic forms and commitment to the vessel his passionate involvement with the Anagama wood-firing process is apparent.

Chris graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA in 1975 and received an MFA from the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred in 1977. He taught for 23 years at Boston University, the Swain School of Design, and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth where he is now Professor Emeritus. Since 2000 he has devoted his full energies to his ceramic work.
