The Art of the Everyday: a Selection of Chinese Folk Pottery

On October 19, 2017 Alfred Ceramic Art Museum entered the beginning of its second year. Last year’s opening exhibitions Core Sample: Selections from the Permanent Collection and its complement Core Sample: Additional Findings provided a look at a few of the extraordinary pieces of ceramic art the Museum has in its collection. These exhibitions hinted at the deeper potential of the Museum to address ceramic art of the 20th and 21st century. Both exhibitions looked especially grand in the generous, beautifully lit space of the new Museum suggesting that, in fact, the Alfred Museum of Ceramic Art is a premiere space in which to experience the ceramic art form.

It was a bit sad to close the Core Sample exhibitions and return the work to storage. Many viewers as well as Museum staff had become emotionally attached to individual pieces. In the future, this work and many others from the permanent collection will be featured throughout the year.
