What you give away,
you keep forever October 19 - December 10, 1995
Vivika and
Otto Heino
While Vivika (1910-1995) and Otto (b. 1915)
Heino have long been considered one of the top husband and wife studio
potter teams in the United States, with a combined history of working
as clay artists equalling more than 100 years, many do not realize
that Vivika Timeriasieff Heino was the second MFA (Master of Fine
Arts) graduate (after Dan Rhodes '43) in 1944 of the New York State
College of Ceramics at Alfred University. The retrospective exhibition
curated by Dr. Margaret Carney, Founding Director of the Museum in
Alfred, features 132 objects created from 1938 to the present.
The exhibit
opens with a gala public reception on Thursday October 19 from 5:00-7:00
p.m. Unfortunately, Vivika passed away on September 1st. Otto will
be present during the reception in Alfred. A 64-page
exhibition catalogue, with color illustrations is available
from the Museum. Catalogue essays were contributed by Val Cushing,
Gerry Williams, and Margaret Carney.
